FAQ Antioxidant

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What’s an antioxidant?
An antioxidant is a biochemical that can neutralize harmful molecules in our bodies known as free radicals. Free radicals are produced during normal metabolism and cell function, as well as pollutants in our air, water and food, and have the ability to oxidize and damage our body's cells. An antioxidant is a biochemical that neutralises these harmful free radicals.  While our body can manufacture its own antioxidants, many of the antioxidants that we require are derived through our food or through consumption of supplements such as grape seed extract.

What's a Grape Seed Extract?
Grapes have been shown to contain a range of healthy components, and interest has peaked on the health benefits attributed to antioxidants in the grapes.  Most of the antioxidants in grapes are found in the seeds and are concentrated on the seed husk.  The components of the grape seed husk, including the antioxidants, can be extracted, concentrated and dried to a powder. The resulting products is commonly referred to as grape seed extract.

An agreement with New Zealand's largest winery assures an uninterrupted supply of grape seed extract as MOXXOR grows.

What is the level of Antioxidants in the Grape Seed Extract?
MOXXOR's Grape Seed Extract is one of the most active plant extracts available, with more than eight times greater antioxidant levels than an equivalent amount of Vitamin C.

What are the antioxidants in a Grape Seed Extract?
The antioxidants in grape seed extract are of a type called polyphenols and also include OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins) and epicatechin.

What’s the correlation of Grape Seed Extract and Antioxidants and why only in New Zealand?
The antioxidant found in Moxxor comes from the New Zealand's award winning Sauvignon Blanc grapes, from the center of New Zealand where the unique atmospheric conditions cause the seed to have greater levels of super antioxidant OPC (oligomeric procyanidin compounds) than any known fruit or berry, and are free from genetically modified material, heavy metals, arsenic and pesticides.  Our grape seed extract is manufactured using a simple and natural process based an all-natural pure water extraction process, and is then freeze dried. The combination of a natural process and careful preservation of the resulting extract maximizes the antioxidant activity.

What makes these grapes the best in the world?
Grapes grown in Marlborough, New Zealand, particularly the Sauvignon Blanc variety, produce world class, award-winning wines.  Most of theses grapes are grown under a Sustainable Viticulture Program that ensures the long term viability of the wine industry with minimal impact on the environment.  This program ensures the traceability of the grapes from the vineyard through the wine making process, a minimum of agrichemical use during growing, and the guarantee that no spray residue is present on the grapes prior to harvest. It is from these seeds that Oxifend® Vinanza is produced.  The way that the grapes are grown and the cleanliness and purity of the environment in which they are grown means that the grapes produce very high levels of natural antioxidants.  In fact, New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc grape seeds contain some of the highest levels of grape seed antioxidants in the world, amounting to between 9 and 12 % of the dry weight of the seed.

What is the method of production of the grape seed extract?
MOXXOR's Grape Seed Extract is produced by extracting the seeds using an all-natural pure water extraction process, concentrating the antioxidant compounds and then freeze-drying the product to a powder form.  This process is 100% natural and uses no chemicals or artificial additives.

What does Grape Seed Extract look like?

What makes the extraction process so unique?
The MOXXOR Grape Seed Extract is unique in that it is produced using only water to extract the antioxidants - no harsh chemicals or solvents are used at any stage in the production process.  This is in contrast to grape seed extract produced by other sources, who typically extract the seeds in potentially harmful solvents such as ethanol or acetone, chemically concentrating the antioxidant compounds, and then spray drying.  These steps decrease the activity of the antioxidant compounds in the extract, and solvent and chemical residues are likely to remain in the finished product.

What’s the stability of the Grape Seed Extract?
MOXXOR Grape Seed extract is highly stable, and in powder form remains stable for up to two years.

Is there a catalyst in this Grape Seed Extract which makes it unique antioxidant?
The AquaPure® method of manufacture ensures that the antioxidant compounds in MOXXOR's Grape Seed extract are a mix of OPCs and epicatechin in proportions similar to those found naturally in grape seeds.  This combination of antioxidants means that the extract has a very high antioxidant level.

What is a Sustainable Viticulture Program?
New Zealand has long been famed for its stunning unspoilt landscape. New Zealand's small population, isolated location and agricultural economy have earned the country a "clean, green" image. New Zealand grape growers and winemakers ensure the stability of the ecosphere by protecting the environmental integrity of their wine production. To this end, a pioneering set of industry standards have been developed known as Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ). Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand provides the framework for companies to work toward increasingly improving all aspects of their performance in terms of environmental, social and economic sustainability in both the vineyard and the winery.

Where are the sustainable environment grape seeds produced?
The MOXXOR seeds are grown in Marlborough, at the top of the South Island of New Zealand, which is the location of the major wine growing area of the country.
